P and I Club

Protection and Indemnity Club

Insurance are required by each ship to trade, carry cargo etc.

P&I clubs are "Not for profit" clubs, which provide insurance to ship owner.

Shipowners takes this is type of insurance to cover himself from various kinds of risk and their claims.

P and I 

1. Provide cover a wide range of liabilities to ship owner.
2. Helps Master and ship owner to faster decisions.
3. Provide advise for claims handling to ship owner.
   
4. Provide advice on legal issues.
5. Provide circular and notices for best practice.
6. Generally have local office to provide faster guidance to ship staff.
7. Have good communications skills and links.
8. Provide advice on loss prevention.

Masters can call P and I club representative if there is a damage or chances of claims. 

Ship owner has to pay premium depending upon .

3. Vessel type (Tanker, container ship, bulk carrier etc)
4. Cargo: which a vessel is certified to carry.
5. Trading areas
