Bill of Lading has three  legal functions:

• A receipt for goods shipped on board.
• Document of Title
• Evidence of the Terms of Carriage

• Quantity shipped
• Apparent quality
• Description and present condition
• Date of shipment
• Voyage details, loadport / discharge port
• Freight details of charter-party
• Nothing in the Bill of Lading is at variance with the terms and conditions of the charter- party
