Emergency Towing Arrangement

EMERGENCY TOWING ARRANGEMENTS

Requirement:

ETA should be fitted on tankers more than 20,000 T DWT.

Master must ensure that:

• Forward and Aft ETA are readily available for deployment forward and aft.
• The pick-up gear for the aft towing pennant should be manually operated by single person with no power and in adverse weather conditions.
• The forward emergency towing arrangement can be deployed in harbour condition in not more than one hour.
• All emergency towing arrangements are clearly marked to facilitate safe and effective use in darkness and poor visibility.
• All emergency towing components are inspected at regular intervals and maintained in good working order.
